Geoffrey Smith

I met Geoffrey Smith while working at a fine local Garden Centre called Daleside Nurseries. He trained at the Yorkshire College of Agriculture and Horticulture, which brought him the prize for best all-round student. At the age of 26, he was appointed Superintendent at the Northern Horticultural Society Gardens, Harlow Carr, Harrogate - a position he held for 20 years.

In 1972 he was made an Associate of Honour to the Royal Horticultural Society, for services to gardening, and in 1988 he recieved an honorary masters degree from the Open University. His TV series include BBC's Gardeners' World and for 10 years he has being a regular member of Radio 4's Gardeners Question Time.

Geoffrey Smith lives in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and, now that cricket and rugby are 'distant memories' his hobbies include fell-walking, photography, fly fishing and a passionate interest in all things pertaining to the countryside.
