Salter Row

The north side of the square was the poorer end of the medieval town. The old street names witness this: Ratten Row means poor and Pudding Middens was the dump from the butchers in the Shambles (now the Market Hall).

The Hemp Cross on Woolmarket was probably the site of public hangings.
