Folk West overview, p3

a future Folklife West Journal ?

In accordance with our Aims ( see /p1 Aims of F.W.), we would like to produce a Folklife West Journal: research, reviews, articles, including seasonal/local celebrations. Former publishers Somers Trad. Folk Club produced a Journal. The cost (c£300, several years ago) was too great for them and would be for us. To be economic, we need more Members; we have only about 150 at present. Adverts specifically for such a Journal could assist; at present it would not be possible without external funding, so we are considering applying for a grant (the problem is the time required which detracts from what we do now).

Folk West articles (Journal section)

Therefore, rather than totally abandoning the idea, Folk West has in effect a Journal section for articles, as time and money allow. Currently we have Doc Rowe's seasonal /local celebrations - listings and photos. From 2005 we hope to include articles.

This is distinct from the Members' News section (news is restricted to Members). Such articles would not be. Haven't thought of a good working title for this Journal section yet .......

Review Policy

We give preference to

~ reviews of books and printed publications that promote the various aspects of folklife traditions, and recordings of traditional singers, please contact Editor before sending review material.

~ to Members, who are welcome to submit reviews (printed, recordings, live performance), contact us first in case someone else has done the same one (emailed, word limits: 300 words).

x As reviews of recordings are well covered by other folk magazines, we don't usually review unsolicited recordings sent by non-members.

PS: note to Members, your report of your latest CD etc welcome, for Performers' News, in the folk news section, usual word limits, see p3a, Folk West - sending us your Members' News
