[/p1] The Aims of Folklife West

Folk magazines for England & Wales from a Membership-based non-profit volunteer group.

"Our aims are

  • to collect, preserve, and provide information on all aspects of folklife
  • to stimulate a wider interest in folk studies & folk culture generally
  • updating where appropriate and as resources allow, in different media
  • this includes in particular, but not limited to, folklife in and around Worcestershire"

Areas we do or might cover are given below. We may apply for charitable status and/or apply for grants at some stage; this might lead to funding, so we could expand the range of what we publish, eg a Worcestershire Folklife Journal.

HISTORY.

Folklife West started on 1st March 2004, expanding publications formerly published by Somers Folklife (from Sep. 1997), and previously by STFC, Somers Traditional Folk Club (STFC) (from Feb. 1983). We've been editing for 22 years! FW and STFC are now completely separate organisations with different Memberships and different organisers.

PUBLICATION & LINKS POLICY, in accordance with our AIMS.

We work to provide information about all aspects of folklife.

This is primarily paper-based.

We may publish some Members' material on-line, but at present we don't have the time, technology, or expertise to provide live links to other sites. Emails and websites are however listed in Directories (paper or PDF versions on this site).

Information for printed publications is accepted from Members and advertisers (some being both) ~ whose contributions fund us.

Members include Folklife Associations, Festivals, Clubs, Performers, Studies, Media, Services, as well as individuals.
