Scrawl magazine set to launch!
To start the New Millennium, Questing Beast has unveiled plans for their new on-line publication, Scrawl.
Scrawl is a new literary periodical which will, "highlight all creative manifestations of the written word and media facilitated by it". Scrawl will review books, theatre, film, radio & TV, books of music lyrics, internet sites and comics. Scrawl will have a strong and discriminating editorial presence with a down-to-earth approach, avoiding elitism and ghettoisation. There will be features examining literary classics on one page, with interviews with pop song writers and comic scripters on the next. Film directors and country playwrights. Pulp fiction rubbing shoulders with Shakespeare.
Scrawl will carry interviews with writers, and articles covering different genres (including cult interest genres, such as Horror/SF Writing). New fiction will be showcased and there are plans to run an annual short story competition for new writers. Scrawl also has plans for several educational initiatives and annual compendium editions in 'hard copy' format.
Preview Scrawl. The first issue is planned to upload for summer 2000.

Jeremy Dean's Nirvana Now!

A new, illustrated biography of the already legendary rock group Nirvana, written by Questing Beast author Jeremy Dean, is out now. Published by Parragon Books, the 'coffee table' edition is available from all good bookshops, priced £4.99.
Nirvana by Jeremy Dean (ISBN 0 75251 860 7) 128 pages softback. Available in the USA as Nirvana Revealed.
From the Author's Preface:
"I have written this book to be the definitive, though unauthorised, biography of one of the USA’s most important rock events: Nirvana. I have endeavoured to present the available facts in a clear and concise format, following a fairly rigid chronological order, reducing my own opinions and any conjecture to the barest minimum. This book is a straight-forward, factual and comprehensive record, and contains only a minor element of personal appraisal. In that respect, this text differs from my previous non-fiction works concerned with the rock scene. After reading what others have already written about the phenomena surrounding Nirvana and Kurt Cobain, I felt that there is a need for at least one objective biography which leaves out journalist jingoism and does not over-sensationalise reality. It is sensational enough! Sensational in general - yes, but also in particular to the Cobain legacy. This biography of a band is intended to be sensitive in treatment, but blunt with facts. Read it and weep..."
