There is macrocytosis,
anisocytosis, and poikilocytosis of the red cells, also a few fragmentary
forms. The neutrophils show nuclear hypersegmentation, which also happens
to make nuclear appendages more obvious; note the "drumstick" (inactivated
X chromosome) of the lower neutrophil in the picture. The patient was
suffering from Pernicious Anaemia, and made an excellent recovery with
vitamin B12 treatment.
