Shiatsu
The Japanese word Shiatsu
literally translates as finger
pressure. The Shiatsu practitioner
uses thumbs, fingers, palms, elbows, knees, feet and stretching techniques to
stimulate and balance the same meridian system of energy flow as is used in
Acupuncture.
On a more subtle level
Shiatsu can
be helpful in very many conditions including:-
|
|
Stress, tension, depression, fatigue, insomnia |
|
|
ME, PMT, headaches, migraine |
|
|
Sports injuries, back pain and stiffness, sciatica, neck and shoulder problems |
|
|
Digestive, respiratory & circulatory problems, etc. etc. |
Shiatsu can often relieve specific complaints but, above all, it helps to maintain optimum health, bringing relaxation and a feeling of well-being and can thus be used preventively enabling people to live their lives to the full and counter the effect of everyday stress.
Treatments are given on a mat or futon on the floor. The
receiver remains fully clothed and should wear warm, loose and comfortable
clothing such as a track suit.
The number of treatments required varies according to the condition and,
following successful treatment, a maintenance programme of regular Shiatsu
should always be considered.
