In 1971 my wife went into hospital to give birth when you paid for items in Pounds, Shillings & Pence and came home, together with our son Graham, to find the coin of the realm had been Decimalized.

However, life goes on, regardless of the mode of payment, provided you can earn the 'means' to pay.

Graham in early life was 'lively' and a problem when trying to get him to sleep, it's funny really, because now he's much older its more dificult to wake him up, or so I'm told.

Following his early years at junior school Eileen and I thought we were in some kind of trouble when his headmaster deemed it necessary to speak to us in Graham's last year, but not to worry it was only to recommend that in view of what he had acheaved academically we should try to get him into a grammar school.

First, Royal Grammar School, Newcastle upon Tyne , then Braenose College Oxford , which lead to degrees and employment with a very well known firm in a position which entails frequent visits abroard . The only disappointment to us is that he has to work and live in the south of England but he does get home as often as he can.

He certainally has seen more of the world than I ever dreamed of seeing and we are very proud of him.

He Keeps himself trim and fit by training for and running in half marathons such as the Great North Run, held in the north east of England and in 2002 the London Marathon. Being his dad, I have to admit, I don't come under the trim and fit criteria, quite the opposite.
