MINUTES OF THE MINEHEAD & EXMOOR FESTIVAL AGM 2005 SEASON

PRESENT: Keith Halstead, Jenny Halstead, Ann Green, Robert Green (Chair), David Yates, Sheena Yates, Keith Jones, Crispin Hodges, Pam Almond.

 

 

APOLOGIES:  Bronwen Hodges, Liz Lewis.

 

1.     MINUTES of 2005 SEASON: Human or Computer failure or both may account for the absence of these minutes for which this minuting secretary ate humble pie.

2.     CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: (Summary: full copy available)

a.      A successful season despite drop in audience attendance; new successful Wednesday chamber concert will be repeated in 2006.

b.      Despite well-received Festival Praise, the link between it and the Young Musician recital needs to be remade and will be at St. Andrew’s in 2006.

c.      In 2006 all rehearsals (except for the Dunster concert) will be at the Methodist Church.

d.      We need to renew in all admin. departments: hosts, committee etc.

e.      Thanks to all who worked to make the Festival a success.

Discussion:

               I.      Thanks expressed to the Chairman for his report and work throughout the year.

             II.      Geoff Dibble has promised to drum up student and staff help from the College.

3.  TREASURER’S REPORT:

       Thanks expressed to the Treasurer for his prudent management of our affairs.

4.   HOSPITALITY:

a.      Just enough beds, but some hosts are unwilling to entertain new players.

b.      Cancellation of Tuesday lunch the rational solution to the uncertainty problem.

c.      Orchestra wants mail shot notes three weeks early.

d.      Help needed for three mail-shots.

e.      Photocopying: C.H. will look into continuing help from Thorne Segar.

f.        Toni Thornton happy to work in Methodists kitchen.

g.      Pam will need the kitchen

5.   PUBLICITY:                                                                                                                                                                             

a.    Wide-ranging distribution of posters and leaflets.

b.    The Exmoor Visitor already contacted.

Thanks expressed to Keith Halstead for his energetic efforts on our behalf and to Jenny.

6.   ELECTION OF OFFICERS:

a.      All existing committee members willingly voted en bloc by unanimous acclaim. (Prop. P.A. /J.H.)

b.      David Yates to take over the Chairmanship from Robert Green.

c.      Advance notice: C.H. to leave treasury in 2007; A.G. to relinquish hospitality in 2007.

7.   A.O.B.

a.      Festival dates: July 23rd- 30th 2006.  Same week already booked with Regal for 2007.        

b.      Cheque signatories: R.G., C.H, D.J.Y, K.J.

c.      Chairs for Dunster from Methodist Church; lights from College 

d.      Early extraordinary mail shot to be sent to Minehead and immediate environs dwelling Festival supporters arguing the need for renewal, asking for support, detailing ways to assist and including an invitation to a social/musical/briefing.  Recruiting meeting (perhaps some time in April 2006).

e.      The Aurora Ensemble (containing Festival players) appear at the Arts Society Concert in the Regal on Friday 7th April at 7-30.  (£10) There is a wonderful array of music (including Samuel Barber, Vivaldi and Nielsen) “Tight witty, beautifully balanced and cleverly phrased” (Independent on Sunday) – just like the Chairman’s report!
