The Arete Mountaineering Club has an agreed constitution. The administration is managed by a committee of 10 members including a President, Secretary and Treasurer who are elected each November at the Annual General Meeting. Regular business is conducted at open bi-monthly meetings held at the Strafford Arms Public House in the small village of Stainborough.
Active membership currently stands at around 25 adults over a wide age range. The Arete Mountaineering club welcomes any adult with mountain related interests. The club is very informal and on a typical meet, members organize themselves into groups according to interests, ambitions and abilities. Mountain and valley walking, mountain biking, skiing, rock/ice climbing and mountaineering are the principle activities within a programme of monthly "away" meets which cover most of the British Isles area. Midweek climbing sessions are held mainly in the local area. Occasional overseas expeditions to the European Alps and the greater ranges are also organised.
Club social activities include dinners, pub drinking sessions, hut/camping gatherings along with slide shows and lectures. All members receive a quarterly news letter.
